5 Questions: Rapper 1st Verse

On January 5th, Tulsa-based rapper 1st Verse dropped his latest music video for single “Boss Up” off the VSXO album released last year. Part of the video was filmed at Silhouette, so we sat down with the artist to hear a little about the album and what’s next.

Tell me about your project VSXO.

VSXO is my first full solo LP in 6 years. It took about 7 months from start to finish. My last song finished in early August. I’ve released two singles with visuals so far off it. And I’m selling hard copies (with MP3) for $30 a piece.

What inspired the drop after 6 years?

I went through a rough period creatively and had to adjust to life changes to get the ball rolling again. There wasn’t a conscious decision to stop recording, so once I found myself in a great mental space to work, I was eager to complete and release the project.

What do you hope listeners take away from this album?

I hope they make a connection more than anything. It’s definitely about belief in one’s self and I hope that that spirit of the album is contagious.

What’s coming for you in 2020?

More single/video releases from VSXO, more collaborative releases with other artists, more shows on the road, World Culture Music Fest 5 (May 22-24) and a full LP with my band, Verse and The Vapors.

Where can your followers see you perform next?

VSXOasis, an art exhibit by No Parking Studios and performance by DialTone and myself at Chimera on February 29th, 6pm-9pm.
